About me

My name is Elena de Mello. I am 16, a junior at Gulliver Prep high school in Miami. I was born in Chicago, partially grew up in New York City, and I am of both Brazilian and Greek descent. Growing up in these diverse cities, I got to meet many different people and speak to them, learning more about their cultures, and exploring new things like food, or celebrations. I also got to hear the stories people had to tell, where I got to immerse myself in their world and perspective, just like I love doing in movies, or books. Along with this, in my free time, I often enjoy cooking with friends, spending time with family, and I absolutely love the beach, or anywhere I can sit and read a good book. But for many of these reasons, my curiosity led me to join my school's broadcasting team RaiderVision, where I would be able to share people's perspectives and stories with the world.

At RaiderVision, I can fully explore broadcasting by working on many different shows as an anchor, editor, script writer, and by filming B-roll for many different segments. Currently, I am an associate producer of RaiderVision’s podcast, RaiderRadio, which was recently ranked at the highest FSPA (Florida Scholastic Press Association) rate, the All Florida level. Away from the studio, I am also a member of our national title winning competition team. In my first year, my partner and I won 1st place for Vert NAT at STN (Student Television Network), which is the largest high school competition in the U.S. Also at STN, the entire group won 1st place for our Crazy 8 Morning show, where I was a producer of the commercial. At other competitions sponsored by FSPA and STN, I won many awards for all types of content, ranging from 1st place, to honorable mentions.
